My 21st Mad Birthday Tea #RUBESTURNS21

Posted on December 12, 2017

Hey guys, I know this blog is way overdue and I apologise for the delay of this post. I've been travelling a lot these past few weeks and got caught in the middle of the holiday season as well (PS: Look out for those posts over the next few weeks).

I remember how all I wanted to do is to grow up quickly so I can start my "adult" life-to make my own decisions and get out of school. As the years past by, time caught up to me fast and all I wish is to become a carefree kid again; free of the frustration, stress, and responsibilities. The fact that I was growing older doesn't bother me as much as seeing my loved ones (like my mother) getting older each day.

Wanting my once in a lifetime 21st Birthday bash to be perfect, I've been planning the details for almost half a year. After going through ten to hundreds of theme, I've finally decided to go with the Alice in Wonderland theme for my birthday party. It was definitely a challenge as Rubyn and I DIY-ed everything ourselves. From baking my own cake to decorating the entire venue, every crucial detail was done up by my sister and I (with the help of Jake here and there).

3 weeks before the party, I began to hand out my party invitations. As it was an Alice in Wonderland themed party, the invitation cards' design were inspired by the Red Queen's Playing Card Soldiers. The party's details were printed on a piece of normal white-coloured paper, then cut out to be attached unto a red manila card using double sided tapes. Each invitation card were about size A6. The invitation cards were then carefully packed into envelopes with the name of each invitee hand calligraphed on the front.

The party was to be held on the 18th of November (my actual birthdate) in G-Hotel Kelawai, 2PM Cafe from 2PM to 5PM.

The Cake Table:

(My Cake Table: homemade cupcakes, champagnes, birthday cake & presents)

My birthday cake was a buttercream covered red velvet cake with chocolate drizzle. My name (RUBES) on the cake was made using rolled fondant. Other decorations on the cake include some lollies, Pocky biscuits, plastic teapot, sweets and flower shaped biscuits.

The cupcakes were placed beside the cake, serving as both an extra dessert and decoration. The red polka dot muffin cups contained white chocolate cupcakes while the ones with the black stripes contained the dark chocolate flavoured cupcakes. They were both topped with buttercream icing and colourful sprinkles.

Flower petals and playing cards were spread around the table along with some of my presents, some champagne. The cream backdrop (sponsored by Empire Signature) accompanied by plain white and red heart shape balloons (from One Image Balloon Deco) were used to create a simple photo-station for everyone.

The Food Table:

(G-Hotel's Tea Set for two)

The tea set for two comes with a pot of tea (of your choice), homemade scones, fruit tartlets, macarons, sliders, and some French pastries.

The tables were decorated with some playing cards, flower petals and candy-filled cups. Some chairs were also attached with balloons. "EAT ME" cookies were baked by yours truly for each of the party guest as a simple door gift. All the seats were predestinated with a name place card designed to help the guests find their seats.

To all my friends and family,

Thank you all so much for all the kind birthday wishes and lovely presents. Each letters, posts, and messages are truly treasured.

Here, I would like to take the opportunity to specially thank my mum for raising this little rebel up to be who she is today. You are my inspiration, my superwoman and the best mum anyone could ever wish for. I love you to the moon and back; I will always and forever be your babygurl so don't think you're able to rid of me that quickly yet!.

A big THANK YOU to all who made it to my birthday party (you know who you are)! Without you guys, it wouldn't have been as much of a blast! On top of that, you guys definitely went overboard with the presents! I love all of them so so much!!!!.

Last but not least, I want to thank those people behind the scenes. First up, thank you Rubyn and Jake for helping me burn the midnight oil to bake, plan, buy the decorations, etc... (We all slept around 4am the night before and woke up at 8am to continue getting ready for the party)..

Thank you my Empire Signature family for sponsoring the backdrop and helping to set up. And of course, to the the staffs of 2PM Kelawai, thank you for your great hospitality and service throughout the entire event. Special shoutout to the outlet manager, Danson, for coordinating his staffs to satisfy my many requests..
